Independent Living Project – Konecta Foundation & Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM)

Pioneering initiative for students with disabilities
Since 2018, Konecta Foundation and Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) have worked together to foster inclusion and educational 2025 participation for students with disabilities.
In collaboration with the Juan Luis Vives Residence Hall, the project offers:
- Fully accessible accommodation
- Co-funded personal assistant support
- A volunteer program to support inclusion
Impacts and goal
The Independent Living Project enables students with severe disabilities to live and study in Madrid, overcoming financial and infrastructural barriers that would otherwise confine them to their family homes.
This is a pioneering initiative in Spain, focused on educational inclusion for individuals with high dependency needs. There is currently no comparable program in the country.
